Sir Ector is one of Uther Pendragon's knights. and a primitive attitude. He prefers more practical things like
fighting and war training over educational pursuits. At some point, he adopted the orphaned Arthur. He is shown to be very strict with Arthur, derisively calling him the Wart, while doting on his son Kay. However, he does worry when he learns that Wart has disappeared into the forest, Which shows that he does seem to care about the boy in some way. He is extremely distrustful of magic, and thus of Merlin, whom he mistakenly refers to as Marvin. After Arthur is revealed as the rightful King of England, he regrets his treatment of the boy, and begs for Arthur's forgiveness. faithful knight of King Uther’s Court, Ector (alias Antor) was chosen by Merlin
to be King Arthur's foster father when he took the Royal baby from his parents
in order to supervise his upbringing. King Uther gave Ector great rewards in
advance, so he would follow all Merlin's instructions: even giving his wife
little Arthur to suckle while entrusting his own son, Kay,
to a wetnurse.
Fifteen years later, after Uther’s
death, young Arthur was acting as page to his foster-brother, at a London
tournament when he pulled the prophetic sword from the stone. Sir Kay, tried to
claim credit, but Ector saw through his son’s claim and made him swear on the
bible how he came by the sword. Arthur was somewhat shocked to discover his
true identity from Ector whom he had always considered to be his father. The
poor man then seems to have merged into the background, as Arthur’s rise to
greatness was accepted across the country. He asked only that Kay be made
Seneschal of all Arthur's lands, and the young King readily agreed.
He was also the father of Arthur's seneschal, Kay. Merlin selected this "lord of fair livelihood in
many parts in England and Wales", whom he called "a passing through man and
a faithful" to Uther, to be Arthur's foster
father.
Accepting the task at Uther's behest, for which Uther granted
him great rewards ahead of time, Ector followed Merlin's directions and gave Arthur to his wife for suckling, entrusting his
own son, Kay,
to a wetnurse. When Arthur was fifteen, Ector took him and his son Kay to London for a tournament at which Kay was to be knighted, with
Arthur acting as his squire. When, having found that he had forgotten Kay's
sword, Arthur returned with the enchanted sword that had been placed in a stone
to test who should become King of all England. Kay tried to claim credit for
drawing the Sword from the Stone, Ector saw through the claim and made his son
"swear upon a book how he came to that sword".
Modern romancers have
presented us with the tale that Arthur was always aware he was not Ector's true
son and that he grew up believing himself a bastard and destined to a humbler
lot in life than Kay.he name
Hector.
